French-English Translation?

I am trying to write a letter in French to my relatives who live in France. I am currently studying French, but my French is not yet good. Combined with my limited knowledge and google translate, I composed this letter, but am sure that the grammer does not make sense. Included is the letter in French and English.

MUCH MUCH THANKS I ADVANCE!!!!!

ENGLISH VERSION:

Dear ______ and ______,

I have been meaning to write to you for quite some time now, becuase the few hours I spent with you in Paris have stayed in my heart. Your love toward each other and life is exactly what Paris represents to me - so thank you for being such a wonderful example of that. I honestly hope to one day be able to live a life such a yours, where someone forever loves me back, and where we work to live, not live to work, as so many Americans do. So maybe we will be having a lunch in Paris someday soon!

College is hard by rewarding. Columbia is beautiful. It is great to be among other students who really take pleasure in learning. My courses are hard. I am taking Chemistry, Calculus, Literature, and a class called "The Philosophy and Psychology of Human Experience." The latter class is interesting, the other classes are not as great as I would have wished. But of course Chemistry will never be as interesting as an art history class.

Since you gave me such a wonderful suggestion to see Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, I would like to recommend the most wonderful film I have seen. I honestly do not think a better film has been made. It is called The Artist - a French black-and-white silent film by Michel Hazanavicus. The main actor, (now my most beloved actor), is Jean Dujardin, and the leading actress is Berenice Bejo. Jean Dujardin won the award for best actor for this film in this years Cannes Film Festival. So when you get a chance to see it, I am sure that you will love it!!

I hope everyone is in good health and is happy!

Hope to hear from you soon!

With Love,

Your letter is beautiful - sure to move them. Your love and appreciation just shines through every sentence - even if mangled. Which is why I would send it as is - for it's you straight from your heart to theirs.

    2) Mar茅e de vive-eau : Mar茅e de nouvelle et de pleine lune pendant laquelle le marnage est maximum, on la qualifie de "grande mar茅e".

Now, what these mean in English...

Is there any way not to get rid of the pun on 'bout' in the English translation?French-English translation?
The best I can up with is to turn the pun from a parallel to an opposite : 'A traveler is a person who will go to any lengths for a short conversation."French-English translation?
Not really, seeing as the English word "bout" and the French word spelled the same way (but pronounced differently) are what's referred to as "faux amis" - literally "false friends". This means that they have completely different meanings. The French word roughly translates as "bit", "piece", "segment", etc.French-English translation?
A traveller is a man who goes away to look for a conversation halfway 'round the world.

"A traveller is a man who goes to the end of the world just to chat about the weather in a different place."?

Not very good. Oh well, go with Erik's.

That's probably what I'd translate it to. It doesn't keep the pun, but it sort of keeps the same tone.

Obviously the literal translation is "A traveller is a man who goes away to look for a bit of a conversation at the end of the world."

"I am so lucky to have you in my life I think that the difference between you and the other men that I have met is that you are genuinely a good man and you do not want to see me come to any harm. That means so much to me. You put my needs as a priority and you are the most unselfish person that I know. You never make me feel that your career is more important than us and you know the importance of companionship and of true love. Not love conditional upon a person having to be a certain way or having to undertake certain things. I know that I will never have to make any sacrifices for you that will harm me and it is for this reason that you make me feel safe. Thanks.English to French translation: "I have a curfew and usually have to be back home by 10pm"?
"Couvre-feu" may be the direct translation of "curfew" but it sounds way too much military in French. Here, you'd prefer to use the term "heure limite" : J'ai une heure limite le soir, je dois 锚tre rentr茅(e) 脿 la maison pour 22h00.
Je dois d'habitude rentrer a la maison avant le couvre-feux, qui est a 22h.

A recent survey has demonstrated that Canadians don't associate some lesions to skin cancer. In fact, while more than half of them are worried of getting skin cancer, the large majority, that is 86%, has been unable to visually identify a pre-cancerous actinic keratosis lesion. Dr Jo毛l Claveau, dermatologist, explains us the importance of early screening and treatment of this common skin infection.

    - Actinic keratosis, also named solar keratosis, is a usually unknown lesion, but it is important to recognize it since it's a precursor of spino-cellular and it's a sign of exposition to sun. Skin cancer screening is an increasingly important phenomenon. It is a problem that we, dermatologists, encounter every day in our offices, no matter the time of the year. Of course we tend to hear more abour skin cancer screenings when summer arrives or when we hold a prevention campaign, but it is important to be aware of that problem all year long, especially those who go to southern destinations during winter, or, for example, people who spend six months in Florida.

Actinic keratosis lesions usually develop on the body parts that are the most exposed to the sun, such as baldness areas, forehead, face, ears, neck and hands. The lesions can be 3D, scaly or rough, and look like red stains, crusts or wounds. They usually show up on people older than 40 years old who have light skin, hair and eyes, or on people who have a history of bad sunburns or exposure to artificial UV radiation, for example, in tanning salons or under tanning lamps.

    - It's been years since dermatologists encourage people to examine themselves, to do a self-exam of their skin. So, a few times a year, it's good to examine yourself, to search for signs of carcinomas or melanomas. Then, when you have a suspect lesion, it is important to talk to your doctor or to a dermatologist. 75% of skin cancers are initially discovered by patients or their spouse. Different treatments available for actinic keratosis are liquid nitrogen for local lesions, chemotherapy creams, thepary with light and treatment to stimulate the immune system with a new formula of imiquimod.

Zyclara is a new topical cream available with prescription approved by Health Canada for treatment of adults with multiple actinic keratosis lesions on the face or baldness areas.

    - Zyclara is a new imiquimod formula and its goal is to stimulate the immune system to get rid of the pre-cancerous lesions. The advantage of this treatment is that it can treat apparent lesions and non-apparent, under-the-skin lesions. Advantages of treating solar keratosis with a cream is that it allows the patient to treat himself at home, A new imiquimod formula allows a shorter, well-tolerated treatment.

Dr Claveau adds that early screening and treatment of the actinic keratosis are the key to avoid its evolution into skin cancer. Canadians should keep an eye on their skin all year long. For more information about actinic keratosis and skin cancers with benign melanomas risks, contact your doctor. Can you help me with a French to English translation?

    Your translation is perfect.

Jenkin: I'm sorry dear but the translation sounds perfectly French-French. There are always different ways to translate a sentence. Of course, that of Id茅fix is right too.

The question was "Is this translation correct?", the answer is "yes".
Well, first, a set is une manche.

And, yes you are allowed to write with this patern:

Pour gagner une manche, vous devez 锚tre le premier 脿 gagner 11 points.

Grammatically, it's about 97% OK. you used an english word set.

An advice: be careful with numbers. Usually, you are allowed to write in numerals when they are greater than ten. If not, you should write them in latin letters.

But I would think about changing the first "gagner" for "remporter". It gets annoying when you repeat the same words too often and the meaning can get affected since many meanings can be applied to a single word.

It's not a grammatical issue, it's just that it sounds weird, especially because it is written and not spoken. Also, your sentences are kind of "jerky". It starts and stops to repeat similar information. Is this english to french translation correct?

    English -French translation please?

Love is giving someone the power to break your heart, but trusting them not toEnglish -French translation please?
Gosh, does no-one really speak french on here ???

'' Aimer, c'est donner 脿 quelqu'un le pouvoir de briser ton coeur, en ayant confiance qu'il/elle le gardera intact. ''

This translates literally as '' To love is to give someone the power to break your heart, while having confidence that he/she will keep it intact.''

I find that it better respects the poetic sound of the phrase. The literal translation would be :

''L'amour, c'est donner 脿 quelqu'un le pouvoir de briser ton coeur, en lui faisant confiance de ne pas le faire.''
" Aimer c麓est donner 脿 quelqu麓un le pouvoir de casser ton coeur [1], mais en fiant que celui-l脿 [2] ne le fera pas."

    [1] c艙ur

[2] for female people instead of "celui-l脿" you should say "celle-l脿"; it麓s rather better then to say "... EN FIANT QUE L麓ON NE LE FERA PAS" or "... qu麓il ne le fera pas" (for male) or "... qu麓elle ne le fera pas" (for female).English -French translation please?
L'amour est une personne de donner le pouvoir de briser votre coeur, mais 脿 ne pas faire confiance

if u can Speak french why don't u do it your self your asking people for help!!!!!English -French translation please?
L'amour, c'est donner 脿 une personne le pouvoir de briser son coeur, en confiance qu'elle ne le fera pas.

    Something like that :P
L'amour donne 脿 quelqu'un la puissance de briser votre coeur, mais leur fait confiance pas 脿.
L'amour donne le pouvoir 脿 quelqu'un pour casser votre coeur, mais ne les fiant pas 脿
This is not perfect but as close as I can get.. it's a difficult sentence and I'm sure there will be various opinions..

L'amour donne 脿 quelqu'un le pouvoir de casser votre / ton coeur, mais ayant la confiance qu' ils ne le vont pas faire.

le pouvoir -- power/control... I think you are mixing it up with the verb pouvoir which means to be able to..

    mais ayant == but having

    la confiance = trust/confidance

    qu'ils == that they

ne le vont pas faire == are not going to do it.

The word power has several different words in French..

la puissance, force, pouvoir, etc etc..

NOTE: Ivan has started his sentence with an infinitive verb.. just know that is also correct. When an infinitive starts a sentence is means that the word adds -ing..

Aimer in his sentence means love/loving...

Also anyword that looks like a verb but ends in -ant also adds the --ing.. (ayant is a form of avoir but with -ant AND means having) not sure what level you are, but I thought I would point that out..

The rest of his stuff I'm not sure about.. I never was told to use cellui and la in that fashion... but I'm not saying it's wrong .. it's just over my head.

English-French translation please or help me correct?

I am talking to some french friends online.

Thank you! :)Oui chou french to english translation please. Online translater says wierd stuff (lol) help thanks?
oui is yes, obviously, and chou does mean cabbage, but in this case they probably mean ``chou`` as in ``dear``, which is kind of like saying, ``yes, (my) dear.`` and that doesn't have anything to do with cabbage, it's just an affectionate nickname :)
    bluebellbbk

I do know what oui means, it was like the first word I learned.

    I am workingon learning french

The only reason I posted oui in the question, was because I wanted to see of it meant anything else besides "yes" when used in certain sentences.

Why not learn French? I really don't see how it can be fun chatting to somebody in a language you don't know. I mean, the word "oui" means "yes"; how can you have chatted to anybody for longer than five mins without learning 'yes'?

My guess was "la situation a-t-elle amélioré depuis Sarkozy est au pouvoir?"

I don't know if the first half of the sentence makes sense or if etre au pouvoir is the correct phrase to use. If it is, would I use the present tense of "etre" (est) or the passé composé (a été)?English - French translation?

Améliorer et s’améliorer. Use the reflexive (with “être” of corse)

    Interrogation with inversion:

La situation s’est-elle amélioré depuis QUE Sarkozy est au pouvoir?

    Interrogation without inversion. “Est-ce que”

DON'T trust Google Translate. If you do not know the language into which you are translating you will end up with awful and embarrassing mistakes. I tried translating Tae Kwon Do into Spanish once and it translated it as "Tae Kwon Hacer" or Tae Kwon "to do." My mother, who has a degree in Romance languages, says she always can tell when a job applicant uses Google Translate on the paragraph they are supposed to translate for her.

Having just said that, here is what Amber P's Google translation actually says:

    1. Of vacation of every summer my family and I go to Goa.

    2. My mother styles to conserve.

    3. And my father runs {as in sprints or jogs} an industry.

    4. My mother (that of fathers is my lives {noun, plural of "life"} of grandmother) with us.

You would say "Si on fait ca, on vivra longtemps"

You could say "si nous faisons ca, on vivrons longtemps" but we don't use 'nous' that much in french when speaking about what 'we' would do. On utilise 'on' le plus souvent! We use 'on' most of the time.

    Pour mon m茅contentement, ....

    Or do you say:

    脿 mon m茅contentement, .... ???

What you are asking is if you say

    To my disappointment

    Or

    my discontent

That is pretty much the straight up translation. To my disappointment makes more sense then my discontent to start a sentence but I do not know the context
It would depend on the context of your statement

do you mean to say For my dissatisfaction = Pour mon m茅contentement

something had an effect on you

or if you mean with my dissatisfaction = 脿 mon m茅contentement

you had prime effect in the clauseEnglish-French translation help please?
In english, it would be "to my discontent", and in french, "a mon mecontentement" would make more sence.English-French translation help please?
脿 mon m茅contentement, to my discontent, would be what you'd say most of the time.

The first sentence, pour mon m茅contentement, means, "for my discontent"... You wouldn't really say for my discontent, well, not unless you were saying something like, "For my discontent to be valid", or something like that.

Should I always translate them in "gr芒ce 脿" and " 脿 cause de" ?

Thanks for helping.Help in translation English-French?
I don't think there's very much difference, although "thanks to" carries a somewhat more positive nuance. If you say something resulted "thanks to" some cause, you are sounding like the result was a good one, although it can also be used sarcastically. "Because of" is more neutral. It doesn't imply whether the result was good or bad.

Probably these have a similar distinction in French.Help in translation English-French?
They mean basically the same thing, but you should use "because of" in most cases. "Thanks to" is used when you are being sarcastic or mean. If your friend wrecked your car, you would say you can't leave you're house thanks to him.

Un petit coucou from Brazil Just means

    'A little hello from Brazil.'

There is absolutely no sexual meaning.

It is almost child-like speech. Nothing dirty.

It means "hello" in informal speech.

In the context you give.. it could just mean

    French/English Translation. Is this correct?

I'm trying to translate part of a song into French, and keep the imagery and tone as intact as possible.

    In English:

The clock ticks by, and the fires burn.

Remember the fallen when the wheel starts to turn.

In their name we fight, so sound the alarms.

To everyone here, this is a call to arms.

    In French:

L'horloge par les tiques, et les feux br没lent.

Souvenez-vous de la tomb茅e lorsque la roue commence 脿 tourner.

En leur nom, nous combattons, d茅clencher les alarmes.

Pour tout le monde ici, c'est un appel aux armes.

I'm pretty sure I have conjugation errors, and probably many more mistakes in my translation. I'm also not sure that some of the words carry the same symbolic meaning in French (i.e. "wheel starts to turn" probably doesn't carry the same connotative meaning when literally translated). I want to revise it so it sounds right to a native speaker, while keeping the same message and tone.

Help would be infinitely appreciated.French/English Translation. Is this correct?
LOL, you must have used an online translator! "tique" is an insect and means "tick" LOL

    It should be:

L'horloge ne s'arr锚te pas (literally "the clock doesn't stop"), et les feux br没lent.

Souvenez-vous de ceux qui sont tomb茅s quand la roue commence 脿 tourner.

En leur nom nous combattons, ainsi / donc, faites retentir l'alarme / donnez l'alerte.

A tous ici, c'est un appel aux armes.

edit: for "the clock ticks by" we also say "le temps s'茅coule" (time passes)

edit: on second thought, you might be right when saying that "the wheel starts to turn" doesn't have the same meaning in French. But what do you think it means in English?French/English Translation. Is this correct?
    Hi

It's not easy to translate, but I try

The clocks ticks by should mean "l'horloge tourne ( en faisant tic-tac)"

The fallen probably means " The fallen soldiers"

Sound the alarms : Donne le signal

    So :

L'horloge fait tic-tac, et les feux br没lent

Souviens-toi de ceux qui sont tomb茅s, quand la roue commence 脿 tourner

C'est en leur nom que nous combattons, alors, donne le signal

Pour tout le monde ici c'est un appel aux armes.

It is the best I can do...

    Hope it helped

You know that there is a boat leading to the land of dreams,

There, where the weather is beautiful, where the sky is unique,

You know at the edge of this earth,

    Oh yes the people sow,

Thousands of seeds of happiness where the hatred grows,

    I was told, little guy,

Over there, it lifts your chains,

    It gives you life,

Without throwing you in the arena,

Like here, little after nine months,

I jumped into a life where you quickly lose your breath,

    Well without hesitating,

    I jumped into the ocean,

    To join this ship,

    And finally see this world,

    Too much light over there,

I had to close my eyes,

    But anything that smells,

    Fulfilled all of my wishes,

    Chorus

I just wanna be free in this way,

Just wanna be free in my world,

    Vivere per libert脿,

    (Italian) Living for freedom,

    Vivere nella libert脿,

    (Italian) Living in freedom,

Well a little girl as beautiful as nature,

Took me by the hand and said: "Follow this adventure",

I was even told, oh yes the sea craves it,

That the mountain curves to let you pass,

She took me away with a never ending gentleness,

And from her golden curls emerged this fragrance,

That for years guided that path,

Your path, my path, the path,

    Chorus x2

To finally arrive at these children's dreams,

They haven't the limits that we have now,

I have seen dolphins that swim in a sky of cotton,

Where flying flowers caress the horizon,

I have seen trees growing and replacing skyscrapers,

I have seen the bottom of a cloud of swallows,

    * A list of problematic phrases that a translator usually faces

    * A list of recommended alternatives to those problematic phrases

    * A consolidated list of phrases to avoid and phrases to use

The goal is to produce English language material that is consistent, correct, concise, complete, and easy to translate. Editors can help achieve this goal through careful examination of vocabulary and syntax.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks and regards,

  • French-English Translation question?

I'm doing a French to English translation of a text and I can't seem to see clear in one of the questions.

Could anyone who has done translation as a subject help me out with this and give some exemples:

"Explain your strategy for translating the passage, paying particular attention to problems of register, syntax and style which the translator would need to address"French-English Translation question?
The question asks you to explain how you would go about translating the text you have been given, and your reasons for this e.g. would you just translate it literally, word for word? No, of course you wouldn't, because this would produce the sort of nonsensical result that you get when you try to translate something with Google! You would instead first read the text, and once you have thoroughly understood its meaning, you would rewrite the text in English. If the original text has been written in a particular style of language, then you might aim to convey this in your translation e.g. you might decide to translate "nous allons a Mc Do" as "we are going to Micky D's" rather than "we are going to McDonalds", as this will better convey the informal tone of the original. You will be making these sort of decisions when you transalate your text, and the question just asks you to outline them. Hope this helps get you started!
I don't understand. Do you want someone to translate this text into french, or is this even the text?French-English Translation question?
If you need help, I speak perfect frenchFrench-English Translation question?
I think you are being asked to "Explain your strategy for translating the passage, paying particular attention to problems of register, syntax and style which the translator would need to address"

So you need to translate the text, explain your strategy for translating the passage, and then discuss any difficulties you encountered.

That's my best guess. Bonne chance!

    English - French Translation Please?

I would be very grateful if someone could translate the following passage or any of it, into French:

Last month, when my school麓s 篓 Work Experience 篓 week came up, I chose to work in a Hospital shadowing Doctors. I was spending five days there, Monday to Friday starting at 09.00 and finishing at 17.30. I was dropped off in the mornings by my parents as it was far away however I had to get the bus home at nights.

When I first arrived, I met with Doctor Mackay who I would be observing and learning from as he dealt with patients in lots of different wards. He told me that he would also be able to allow me to interact with patients if they were willing.

I was given many tasks throughout the week such as helping patients put on medical equipment, prepared food and drink for elderly patients, helped to push patients in wheelchairs to their cars. I also got to speak to many medical students and Doctors to ask them about a careert in the medical field.

The Doctors, Nurses and other staff were very patients with me, they took the time to carefully explain everything to me, making sure I knew what I was doing. I also noticed that although Doctors have to work very hard, their work is very satifsying.

I highly enjoyed my week in the hospital. In the future, I would like to go on to become a Doctor as I enjoy both interacting with patients and I have an interest in Science. To do this, I must work hard at school gaining high grades in my subjects before going on to study Medicine at University. It will not be easy but my work experience has motivated me to work hard.|||Here's the first paragraph,

    English - French translation?

Hi, I was wondering how you would translate the following few questions?

What are young French people interested in? What worries them? What frightens them?

I attempted to translate it myself, so I was wondering if someone could correct me? Thanks!

A quoi les jeunes francaises s'intéressent? Qu'est-ce qui leur inquiete? Qu'est-ce qui leur fait peur?English - French translation?
"La situation a-t-elle amélioré depuis Sarkozy est au pouvoir?"

Améliorer et s’améliorer. Use the reflexive (with “être” of corse)

    Interrogation with inversion:

La situation s’est-elle amélioré depuis QUE Sarkozy est au pouvoir?

    Interrogation without inversion. “Est-ce que”

Est-ce que la situation s’est amélioré depuis que Sarkozy est au pouvoir?
There are more than one way to say that ^^ You can translate it like that:

Qu'est-ce qui intéresse les jeunes Fran?ais? Qu'est-ce qui les inquiète? Qu'est-ce qui leur fait peur?

    Or in the following way:

Quels sont les champs d'intérêt des jeunes Fran?ais? Quels sont leurs inquétudes? Quels sont leurs peurs?

I hope that was helpful ^^English - French translation?
A quoi les jeunes fran?ais s'intéressent-ils? Qu'est-ce qui les inquiète? Qu'est-ce qui leur fait peur?

La situation s'est-elle améliorée depuis que Sarkosy est au pouvoir?English - French translation?
Dans que jeunes Fran?ais sont-ils intéressés ? Que les inquiète ? Que les effraie ?
    Your translation was great!

But just like someone else here answered, it's better as "s'intéressent-ils?" in the first sentence(:

(also you made a spelling mistake: *Fran?ais. Only in English do we add "es" to make it plural.)

"There's never a day that I have to remember you because I never for a moment forgot you."

    AND

"i am my beloved's and my beloved is mine as we browse through the lillies"

Even if you can only translate one of the phrases, it would help me so much.

    THANKS!

    =)

P.S. I've taken 5 years of french so I can tell if you used an online translator.

Sorry, I have yet another query. (I have an exam tomorrow and am currently working my way through past papers!)

How would you say "are French students so different from British ones?"

The only part I'm having a problem with is how to translate "ones." Would you be able to repeat the word "茅tudiants" and say "茅tudiants britanniques?"English - French translation?
Est-ce que les 茅tudiants fran莽ais sont si diff茅rents de ceux du Royaume-Uni?English - French translation?
Use the demonstrative "ceux" as in "ceux-britanniques".English - French translation?
In that case, you can repeat the word "茅tudiants" :

Les 茅tudiants fran莽ais sont-ils si diff茅rents des 茅tudiants britanniques?
